Zojoji is a temple that is a 10 minute walk from Henn na Hotel Tokyo Hamamtsucho. This temple is known as a power spot that is deeply rooted to the Tokugawa family. Visitors can view the temple and Tokyo tower together at a glance which creates a beautiful collaborative view.
Zojoji was founded in 1393 and was relocated to where it is now in 1598 since Ieyasu Tokugawa wanted to establish a provincial government. It also served as a center for religious studies, where about 3,000 priests and novices were residential students. This garden has deep roots to the Tokugawa Shogunate, as Tsunashige Matsudaira built his first mansion in this area. This garden gradually got renovated as it got passed on to the other shoguns, and has become what it looks like today.
The garden became a detached palace of the Imperial family after the Meiji Restoration. On September 1st, 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake, some of the area was destroyed. As it got restored, it was released in April 1946 for guests. It became a national scenic spot and historic site in November of 1952.
